Trade Stand Manager
![Meet the Team 1 Anne Defaye](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Anne-Defaye.webp)
Anne is our City of Birmingham Trade stand manager. Responsible for the smooth running of the many trade stands and layout and has been part of the management committee since 2016.
Anne has been showing Whippets since 1982 under her Fedaye Affix. She is a Royal Kennel Club member and awards CC’s in both Whippets and Dachshunds.
She has been secretary/ treasurer of Coventry Ladies Kennel Society for 42 years and a committee member of the Midland Whippet Club for 38 years and is their current acting secretary.
Anne started in Whippets because of Ann Knight of Dondelayo affix. She took her under her wing and encouraged her to show. She kept her breeding going for a while after she died in 1988, but hasn’t bred a litter for many years now
Anne says she just has a 15 year old girl who has always been just a pet, and a very lazy 8 year old boy, so does not show often now but enjoys taking part thru both her committee work, stewarding and judging.
Anne stewards at many shows and loves ‘working’ at a show in any way now that they don’t have their trade stand.
Born in Coventry Anne now lives on the East coat of Yorkshire.
She looks forward to welcoming everyone at the show, please contact us if you are a trade stand and interested in participating at our show.
Chairman
![Meet the Team 2 Bill King](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Bill-King.webp)
I joined the City 21 years ago at the invitation of Mike Stockman and Keith Young.
For several years now it has been my privilege to be Chairman and to work with some of the most talented people in dogs.
My first introduction to the show scene was back in 1980 when I joined the Pedigree team and my first proper introduction to Dandies was in 1986. As they say, the rest is history.
I look forward to welcoming you to our show where all dogs are given the ‘green carpet’ treatment.
Treasurer
![Meet the Team 3 Brian Marshall](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Brian-Marshall-.webp)
I was elected Treasurer in 2011 and it has been a great pleasure to be a member of an excellent committee that organises and operates a very special General Championship Show.
It was 1977 when an Irish Setter came into my life and soon the showing bug descended and during the 1980’s and most of the 1990’s showed quite extensively. I was fortunate to make up several show champions including a Group winner.
My judging career started in 1983 and my first Championship Show appointment was in 1989. I have awarded CC‘s in Irish Setters many times including Crufts 2011. I have also judged in United States, Sweden and Holland.
For many years now I have been more involved in the administration side of our showing hobby and I served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Irish Setter Club of Scotland for 30 years until 2019 when I was honoured to be appointed Chairman while continuing to be Treasurer. I have also acted as Treasurer of the Scottish Kennel Club and held that position for 11 years until retiring in 2015.
Previously from 1983 to 1992 I served on the Council of the Scottish Kennel Club during which time I became Life Member. In 2023 I was elected an Honorary Life Member of the now Royal Kennel Club.
I am now very much looking forward to this year’s show with the additional hall which we have been able to secure. Furthermore we have a very impressive list of Partnership Shows to also welcome each day.
Social Media
![Meet the Team 4 Claire Millward](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Claire-Millward.webp)
One of the newest members of City of Birmingham’s management committee, I was extremely honoured to be asked to join last year. Since joining this year I have taken on the role of Social Media in the lead up to our show and engagement. I really look forward to rolling up my sleeves up at the show working along side our fantastic team to deliver the best experience and show to our exhibitors. I will also be bringing some live feeds and photos across the 4 days and show set up.
I have been involved in the crazy world of dog shows for nearly 40 years now. I have bred and exhibited under the Alouann Affix with my sister Liz. We have successfully bred multiple Champions, Group winners in both this country and overseas in our first breed Afghan Hounds. I have also been blessed with 3 imports from ‘down under’ all of which have been ‘Top Dogs’ multiple group winners Best in show and Reserve Best in Show winners at Champion level and most recently winning the Contest of Champions this year.
14 years ago we were joined with our first Greyhound who went on to Group and Reserve Best in show status at Championship shows, our second Greyhound became our first World Winner! Both were multiple ‘Top Dogs’ in this country and also Europe.
In total Alouann Bred or owned dogs have won in excess of 100 CCs
I have also been lucky enough to judge my breed in America on 2 occasions one at the National weekend, Australia, Scandinavia, Europe as well as awarding CCs in the Uk in both Afghans and Greyhounds. Much as I enjoy judging my passion has always been working with the dogs and being the other end of the lead 🙂.
I currently have my second Vizsla who keeps us well and truly on our toes and loves nothing more than fell running with my partner in the Peak District, I also co-own a Foxhound with the world famous Foxhunt kennel in Australia, we look forward to him joining us here in a few years.
I am a member of both the Royal Kennel Club and Dogs New South Wales (Australia). I have also served on the committee of South Yorkshire Hound for over 20 years until recently.
Away from dogs my day job is a Residential property Valuer I have done this for 24 years now, I am also BBC Radio Sheffield’s local property expert.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our show, and I hope that you are all enjoying these glimpses into our judges and our team as much as I am 💞 I welcome any feed back or ideas/ coverage that you would like to see.
Secretary of City of Birmingham
![Meet the Team 5 David Bell](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/David-Bell.webp)
Having worked at “The City” as a steward and Group Steward in the 1990’s at Perry Park, I was invited to join the Committee in 2001, proposed by Mr Leslie Page.
Appointed Show Manager in 2004 and then on the retirement of the previous Secretary Mr Keith Young, was elected Secretary of The Association in 2014.
I have always enjoyed being involved in the Administration of Shows, being the Founder and inaugural Secretary of The Midland Irish Setter Society, Secretary of The Setter & Pointer Club, Chairman of The Irish Setter Association, England and Chairman of Walsall & District K A, all this giving me a good grounding for the role of Secretary, which as a “Brummie” is gives me immense pleasure to be involved in “The City”,
I started showing Irish Setter in 1975 and have continuously shown the breed to the present, adding latterly Jack Russel Terriers, also owning Labradors and Pointers.
My Judging career commenced in 1980, being approved to award CC’s in 1988, Now approved to award CC’s in 20 Gundog Breeds and the Group together with 2 Terriers Breeds and 2 Hound Breeds.
To be involved in The Team of people that put on The City Show is an honour, each and everyone of whom are committed to giving the best to exhibitors.
Partnership Show Liason
![Meet the Team 6 Jackie Bowns](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Jacquie-Bowns.webp)
I have worked for the show for many years, officially joining committee 18 months ago.
This year for the first time I will be Partnership Show Liason, making sure that breed clubs joining us at City have a direct contact, also making sure that the clubs chosen judges are looked after with our judges and able to find their dedicated rings
My breed has always been Shih Tzu and my journey started in 1982, I was showing my Old English Sheepdog – it was a huge class and my eyes wondered to the next-door ring. In this ring where the most enchanting little hairy dogs – it was love at first sight- I decided then and there to find out everything I could about them – I first learnt that they were Shh Tzu and the journey began.
Following a lot of research and a lot of chatting to people my first puppy was breed by Mrs Heather Taylor and was called Heatherstone Chin Lee Chu. Heather told me she had a litter, and would I like to come and see them. I was so excited. I had my heart set on a solid gold dog – I had fallen for the solids almost immediately.
I arrived at Heathers only to find all the puppies were black and white – it hadn’t occurred to me to ask what colours they were. Heather told me something that day I have never forgotten. Colour does not make the dog and you should never ever be persuaded or put off by colour.
Heather had two boys she thought would be good enough for the show ring and I took Rowley home – we never looked back, he was beautiful and together him and I learnt the art of grooming and showing. He had many wins and was a delight to own.
My first club judging appointment came in 1992 when I was invited by Northern Counties Shih Tzu Club to judge their Open Show.
I was secretary of NCSTC for many years
My first-time awarding Kennel Club Challenge Certificates came in 2008 and I have judge at this level regularly since.
I have been privileged to have shown and owned some beautiful examples of the breed and to have made up Champions in several colours.
Office Administration
![Meet the Team 7 Kate Irving](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Kate-Irving.webp)
I first joined the Birmingham City Committee in the 1990s when Mike Stockman was Chairman, and the show was held at Perry Park. My role at the show has always been to look after the office dealing with exhibitor queries etc. That role is probably easier now that most entries are made digitally, and entry queries are handled more by the printers. We also welcome the judges on their arrival.
My first experience of general championship show administration was at the Border Union where I used to help with the closing of entries when these were all by post and were all handled by the Secretary and her team. I was also for some years Secretary of the Border Terrier Club.
My first involvement with dog shows was working with my mother who founded the Dandyhow Kennel of Border Terriers, later joined by Dandie Dinmont Terriers. The first champion bred in my own name was a Dandie Dinmont and that was followed by a further fifteen Border Terrier Champions including the breed bitch record holder from 1996 to 2007 with 24 CCs.
I only ever judged Border Terriers and Dandie Dinmont Terriers at CC level and retired from judging in 2013.
I look forward to welcoming judges to the event and helping exhibitors with queries at this year’s ‘City’ show.
Show Manager
![Meet the Team 8 Melanie Raymond](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Melanie-Raymond.webp)
I have been involved with the City for many years, from helping out stewarding in the beginning to then being invited to join the committee in 2017 and in the latter years taking on the role as Show Manager.
I’m also involved with NASA National Australian Shepherd Association a breed I’m heavily involved in and now sit as chairman and Show Manager.
I very much enjoy the organisation side of the show world and the Behind the scenes of our championship shows.
I am more known as an exhibitor and feel this helps when organising a show as you have a much better perspective of what an exhibitors experience should be.
I myself show Beagles and Australian Shepherd of which I’ve had great success winning BIS at all breed championship shows with both breeds and more recently winning BIS at Crufts.
I have not quite followed in my mother or grandmother footsteps with regards to judging but I do judge the breeds I have been involved with Beagles, miniature schnauzer and Australian Shepherd’s.
Im very proud to be part of a great team here at The City although this year will be difficult as we have lost a great member and I, a personal friend who was always there helping out at the City and this year would be taking on a bigger role as a Group steward. In her second year as a committee member Sarah Willett.
I do hope you all enjoy your experience this year and as always we welcome your feedback and strive to take this show forward each year.
Vice Chairman
![Meet the Team 9 Rosemary Hall](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Rosemary-Hall.webp)
I hold the position of Vice Chairman, which I am very proud of having spent many years as a helper then committee member.
Many exhibitors will remember my late husband – Bernard Hall – as the shows official main ring commentator, also for many years the main Commentator at Crufts.
At our show I am what some people would call ‘where is Rosemary’ and I would help sort out problems or help for stall holders, exhibitors or committe members etc.,
First thing in the morning before judging starts, I welcome the Judges and thank them for coming.
At committe meetings if the Chairman is not able to take the chair I take that position.
I look forwards to welcoming everyone at this years show.

![Meet the Team 10 Stuart Milner](https://thecitydogshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Stuart-Milner.webp)

In 2003 the show moved to its present location at Stoneleigh Park. On the retirement of the Hon Secretary and Assistant Secretary Keith and June Young , l was
Invited to become Assistant Secretary. I stepped down as Chief Steward in 2018 .
I started showing when I acquired my first dog a Beagle from the famous Dialynne Kennels in 1971 ,owned by the well known Marion Spavin, and our two families became very close. I made up my first Champion Ch Copewell Charity in 1976 , and shortly after went into partnership Marion and Dianna Spavin .
