KC ‘Have A Go’

THE KENNEL CLUB ENCOURAGES DOGS AND OWNERS TO ‘HAVE A GO’ AT CITY OF BIRMINGHAM DOG SHOW IN WARWICKSHIRE

For a chance to qualify for a special competition at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, The Kennel Club, the organisation behind Crufts, is encouraging dogs and owners based in Warwickshire and the surrounding areas to ‘Have a Go’ competing with their dog at a Championship dog show.

A training session and competition for those that might like to try showing their dog will take place on Saturday August 31 at City of Birmingham Canine Association dog show, held at Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry. The ‘Have a Go’ sessions are supported by the only weekly newspaper Our Dogs, Birdbrook and Awardboard Rosettes, Yorkshire Finest Pet Food, Josera Foods, Royal Canin and Eukanuba. Rosettes and goody bags will be provided to all those who compete.

This is a great opportunity for pedigree dog owners to find out what it’s like to compete in the show ring, while also having the chance to qualify for a special place at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts which is taking place between the 6 – 9 March 2025 at the NEC, Birmingham.

The ‘Have a Go’ dog shows are being held across different regions in the UK in 2024 at various championship dog shows. The events are designed for people of any age and ability, with a pedigree dog, and are the ideal opportunity for owners to develop a new skill. Complete beginners, with no prior experience or knowledge of dog showing are welcome, with just interest and enthusiasm needed. All owners and their dogs can reap the rewards of the socialising experience, unite with other dog-lovers over shared interests and ambitions, and become part of a close-knit community.

Helen Kerfoot, Chief Canine Health, Events and Activities Officer, commented: “For those who have ever watched Crufts and wondered how their own canine companion could ever be crowned ‘Best in Show’, the ‘Have a Go’ dog shows could be the first step! The shows are energetic and fun-filled for everyone involved. It’s wonderful to watch newcomers discovering and learning the skills of dog showing in a laidback yet educational environment and is so inspiring. I have no doubt there could be further future Crufts stars in our midst in Warwickshire!”

Booking a place at the Have A Go show at City of Birmingham Championship dog show, costs £10, including parking, and all participants will receive a beginners’ dog showing pack.
